Frank Wild's
Commemorative Expedition

Last Year We Had the Privileged and Unique Opportunity to Return the Ashes of Famous Explorer Frank Wild CBE to their Final Resting Place during our Commemorative Expedition to Antarctica, The Falklands & South Georgia

Please join our November 20th, 2012 departure as we embark on an historical adventure through time. This special 18-night voyage falls exactly one year following the transport of Wild's ashes to South Georgia, and 91 years after his last voyage with Shackleton in 1921*. The interment was only possible following a seven-year-long research journey by South African author and polar expert, Angie Butler, who discovered Wild's ashes in Johannesburg. Wild’s wish to be buried bedside Shackleton never materialised due to the outbreak of WWII a week after his death.

Angie Butler, whose recently released book, The Quest For Frank Wild, features exclusive publication of his original memoirs covering four expeditions including those on the Nimrod and Endurance, will also be joining the cruise as a guest speaker.

November 20, 2012 Highlights Include:

  • Travelling on the impressive ice-strengthened expedition cruise vessel, Akademik Ioffe
  • Profusions of seabirds and migratory birds including the black-browed and wandering albatross
  • Bustling rookeries of rockhopper, Magellanic, gentoo, adlie, chinstrap, and kind pengiuns (to name a few)
  • Awe-inspiring experiences with marine mammals including humpback and minke whales, crabeater, Weddell, elephant, fur and leopard seals.
  • Opportunity to travel alongside and learn amongst long time Antarcticians, all experts in their field of study including ornithology, marine biology, history, and geology.
  • Once in a lifetime adventure amongst towering goliath icebergs, and glaciers tumbling into the ocean.
  • This trip is operated by One Ocean Expeditions, a true Polar professional in every way.

The 18-night Frank Wild Commemorative Expedition includes all meals and accommodation plus Zodiac excursions and landings.
